Personalised Cataract Surgery

Is the world around you starting to lose its clarity?
Are colours less vivid than they used to be?
Is night driving becoming more difficult?
Do everyday moments seem less sharp and vibrant?

These may be signs of cataracts.

Cataracts are a common and treatable cause of these changes and modern surgery offers more than just restored vision.

Mr Lane offers a personalised approach to cataract surgery, tailoring your vision to your daily needs, your visual goals, and your lifestyle, using premium lenses not available on the NHS at a time that suits you, without the NHS waiting times.

What Are Cataracts?

Living with cataracts can feel like looking through a misted window. Colours may appear dull, night driving can become stressful, and everyday activities like reading, cooking, or watching television often become more difficult.

A cataract develops when the eye’s natural lens, which sits just behind the coloured part of the eye (the iris), becomes cloudy over time. Cataracts can affect one or both eyes and often progress slowly.

Common symptoms include:

  • Blurred or cloudy vision
  • Sensitivity to bright lights or glare
  • Difficulty seeing at night or in dim lighting
  • Faded or yellowed colours
  • Halos around lights
  • Frequent changes in your glasses prescription
  • Double vision in one eye

If you are noticing these changes, cataract surgery can make a significant difference. It is one of the safest and most successful procedures performed worldwide. Cataract surgery can improve vision and restore the sharpness, contrast, and rich colours that help you enjoy life to the fullest.

Personalised Patient Journey

Before surgery, you will have a thorough eye examination and a detailed discussion about your vision goals with Mr Lane. This personalised consultation will help him recommend the lens option that best suits your eyes, daily activities, and lifestyle.

What is cataract surgery?

Cataract surgery is a safe, routine procedure used to treat the clouding of the eye’s natural lens. During the operation, the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL). This allows light to pass clearly to the back of the eye restoring sharp vision.

The surgery is usually performed as a day case, so you can go home the same day. It typically takes less than 20 minutes to complete.

Before the procedure begins, you will receive local anaesthesia to numb your eye. You may also be given a mild sedative to help you feel relaxed.

During the operation, the cloudy lens is gently removed and replaced with a clear artificial lens. After a short period of rest in the clinic, you will be able to go home to begin your recovery.

If needed, we also offer laser treatment after surgery to fine-tune your prescription and further improve the accuracy of your vision correction.

FAQs About Personalised Cataract Surgery

You may need cataract surgery if you’ve noticed blurred or cloudy vision, increased glare from lights (especially at night or when looking at screens), faded colours, halos, or difficulty reading or driving.

One early sign is needing frequent changes in your glasses prescription, such as becoming more short-sighted or suddenly needing glasses for distance when you never did before.

While some people wait until their vision becomes severely affected, this isn’t necessary. If cataracts are beginning to impact your daily life, or even if you simply want to reduce your dependence on glasses, cataract surgery can be considered sooner. In fact, many people now choose premium cataract surgery as a lifestyle choice, not just a medical necessity, to enjoy a fuller life with sharper vision.

As an experienced surgeon, Mr. Lane will discuss your individual risk factors during consultation and use advanced techniques to minimise complications.

There are several replacement intraocular lense (IOLs) to suit different visual needs:

  • Monofocal lenses offer either clear distance vision (glasses still needed for near tasks), or clear near vision (glasses still needed for distance).
  • Toric lenses correct astigmatism, improving vision with less dependence on glasses.
  • Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) lenses provide sharp distance vision with a continuous range into intermediate vision, such as computer work. They provide some support for near vision, and often have fewer visual side effects than multifocal lenses.
  • Multifocal or trifocal lenses provide good distance, intermediate, and near vision dramatically reducing the need for glasses.

During your personalised consultation, Mr. Lane will ensure the ideal IOL is selected based on your eye measurements, lifestyle, and visual goals.

Cataract surgery is not painful during the procedure thanks to local anaesthetic eye drops. Most patients report feeling only slight pressure during surgery.

Post-operative discomfort is minimal – you might experience mild scratchiness, tearing, or light sensitivity for a few days. Any discomfort typically resolves within 24-48 hours and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief if needed.

Mr. Lane uses the latest surgical techniques to minimise trauma and ensure your comfort throughout the process.

It depends on the IOL you choose. If you have moderate to high astigmatism and you do not opt for a toric lens (astigmatism correcting lens), then you will likely require glasses full time. Standard monofocal lenses typically require glasses some of the time, either near or distance tasks depending on what distance your lens is set to. Premium multifocal/trifocal options often eliminate the need for glasses altogether. I will go through your lens options with you during your consultation to determine which ones would be suitable for your visual needs and lifestyle.

Post-op, you’ll wait up to 4–6 weeks for eye measurements to stabilise before getting new glasses—depending on the chosen lens, some patients find they don’t need them at all.

If your vision is holding you back, it’s time to take the next step.
